about

This album is about new beginnings.

This album, as a project, has spanned the amount of time since shortly after the release of Supersonic Tartan Death Machine’s late 2018 album “Sgian Dubh”.

For a while I thought that “Sgian Dubh” was a pinnacle that could not in any way be surpassed. It checked a lot of boxes for me in terms of what would be the penultimate Supersonic Tartan Death Machine album. Dealing with an unpleasant situation in a variety of ways, this album was a poke in the eye of city hall, a snot-nosed snub at authority reeking of punk aesthetic, but all the while maintaining a level of satirical poignancy, a little humour and an even an educational angle... I curated this project in every aspect from A-Z... and as such it was my proudest work to date!

But, I would also say in terms of creative energy, it really drained me in many ways. It took me some time to regroup, both spiritually and emotionally. But at the same time I wanted to continue in the pursuit of musical sounds that resonated and had meaning. And so, with some personal inspiration, the first track “Epidemic of Loneliness” was created. From this point onwards the creative energies were back up and running, full tilt.

At first the album was half songs, half instrumentals. By FAWM 2020, I had 8 songs and 7 instrumentals, I decided later to ditch the instrumentals, and save these for a later release. When the pandemic started it allowed me to add two more songs, bringing us to a nice round number... 10 tracks... needless to say tracks 9-10 are COVID-19 pandemic enabled, even inspired. I hope these don’t get you down too much!

It is ironic though because the first track I created in this set of songs, the title track, was created almost a year before the start of the pandemic, based on some stuff happening in my life at the time. This was the concept for the album... but suddenly, so relatable to these troubled times...
